We are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to join the 24th Abingdon Scout Group Executive Committee as Trustees. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of our group and support the young people in our community.
What is a Trustee?
Trustees form the governing body of the Scout Group. Their role is to ensure the charity is run in accordance with its constitution and legal requirements, that funds are well managed, and that we are always working in the best interests of our young members.
How is a Trustee different from a Scout Leader?
While Scout Leaders are involved in delivering weekly meetings, activities, and camps directly with young people, Trustees work behind the scenes to provide governance, strategic guidance, and practical support. You don’t need to wear a uniform or run activities — but your contribution is just as crucial in keeping the group thriving.
At the moment, many of our Trustees are also Scout Leaders. We are keen to strengthen our governance by having a clearer separation between the Trustee Board and the leadership team. By bringing in more Trustees who are not directly involved in running weekly sessions, we can ensure a broader range of perspectives, skills, and focus on the strategic needs of the group.
Commitment
The role is flexible and designed to fit around your life. We typically hold three committee meetings per year plus an Annual General Meeting (AGM). Additional time may be needed for specific projects or responsibilities, but the overall time commitment is modest.
Who we’re looking for:
We are seeking:
General Trustees – to contribute to governance and decision-making.
Fundraising Trustee – to help develop and lead our fundraising strategy.
Maintenance Trustee – to oversee the upkeep and improvement of our facilities.
Chair of Trustees – to lead the committee and guide our overall direction.
Why get involved?
Being a Trustee is a rewarding way to give back to the community, develop your skills, and make a real difference to the lives of young people. You’ll work alongside friendly, committed volunteers and be supported with any training you need
